About the system

This was originally inspired by a visit to Taliesin in Spring Green, Wisconsin — Wright’s home, set into a limestone hill above the Wisconsin River, built from the land around it. Then to Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona — the desert counterpart, where volcanic rock from the site became the walls and stretched canvas filtered the light. Both places taught the same lesson: the materials you build with aren’t separate from the design. They are the design language.

That’s the principle behind this tool — materials name and constrain the system, instead of abstract adjectives. Each place draws its token vocabulary from the local geology, flora, and building traditions. The Sonoran palette names obsidian and saguaro. The Prairie palette names limestone and goldenrod. The Pacific palette names kelp and driftwood. The names carry their own constraints.

The system became the brand language for Astrodata, a data-and-AI consultancy — and the fit was in the name. Astro points at astronomy, the oldest precision science: measurement, instruments, making the vast legible. Wright’s method works the same way — form derived from an underlying system, not from taste. For a company whose product is accuracy, the brand had to be built the same way: every token derived, nothing arbitrary, the type and grid behaving like instruments. In a data product, precision is trust.

Three typographic pairings match each landscape: Jost for Sonoran (the geometric precision of Wright’s era), Bodoni Moda for Prairie, and EB Garamond for Pacific. Four axes — place, time, season, weather — produce 240 unique configurations.

Every generated spec covers color tokens, typography, spacing, grid, buttons, cards, surfaces, glow system, forms, navigation, page templates, data visualization, tables, badges, states, icons, animations, accessibility, content voice, and rejection criteria.
